The October star party is also Cosmic Camporee! Come join us for camping, food, company, and hopefully clear skies on Saturday, October 5th. Hot dogs, hamburgers and soft drinks will be provided. Please bring a side dish or dessert! Sunday morning we will break out the griddle for pancakes! RSVP to the observatory director, Rick Bassham, and let him know what you plan on bringing and how many in your party plan to come, so he can plan to have enough hot dogs, hamburgers and drinks. During the day, weather permitting, we will have the solar telescope up and running, and if the skies stay clear for the night, all of the club’s visual telescopes will be available. This year, we have the Draconid meteor shower peaking just after the weekend, so we may catch a few early ones. This highly variable shower tends to have major outbursts from time to time. In the past, outbursts have seen anywhere from 150 to 3000 meteors per hour. While we probably won’t see that many this year, especially before the peak, they can still put on a good show.
